Professional tax services for discriminating clients.
Serving Northern Virginia and the nation.

Who We Are

Hamilton Tax Services was founded by attorney Paul J. Coelus to fill the gap between certified public accountants (CPAs) and chain tax preparers.

CPAs provide quality service, but their fees are out of reach for many individuals and small businesses.

Chain preparers are less expensive than CPAs, but at what price?

  • Can you develop a long-term, trusting relationship with a seasonal employee in a strip mall tax factory?
  • Is a preparer who offers Refund Anticipation Loans really looking out for your best interests?
  • How qualified is the person you'll be dealing with? In most states, anyone can prepare tax returns for a fee. There are no educational standards, no tests, and no licensing requirements.

At Hamilton, our mission is to provide the quality and personalized service you'd expect from a CPA, but at a much more reasonable cost.

Mr. Coelus is a graduate of Cornell University and Boston University School of Law. Although not a CPA, he has studied both accounting and tax law, and during a career in the US Air Force as an acquisitions officer and judge advocate, he managed legal assistance programs that provided income tax preparation services for thousands of clients.

In addition to operating Hamilton Tax Services, Mr. Coelus is chief financial officer of Waterford, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in public involvement for land use, transportation, and environmental projects. He is also treasurer of the Cornell Club of Washington, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that funds scholarships for DC area students. And he is co-chair and principal organizer of the Alexandria Turkey Trot, a five-mile road race that draws 3,000 runners to benefit the D.C. Road Runners Club, the Del Ray Business Association, and ALIVE! Inc., an ecumenical nonprofit serving Alexandria's neediest families.
